Henry Tudor House

Shrewsbury

Henry Tudor House is one of the oldest, most historic half-timbered buildings in Shrewsbury. It draws in friends for a drink, work colleagues for lunch, brings family and friends together for a celebration and its function room attracts some of the best acts around.

The three story, listed building, featured a pub on the ground floor, which was rundown, tired and had been closed. The challenge for DV Architects was to work closely with Anthony Carty Design, providing a full design and build service, including subcontractor management. Its team of specialists would also manage all listed building consent, heritage statements and work with the Shrewsbury conservation area.

DV Architects project managed a full redesign of Henry Tudor House to feature a cocktail bar and dining area on the ground floor, a restaurant on the middle floor and a function room above that. The new interior design scheme features a beautiful zinc bar bathed in ever-changing colours, a conservatory with elegant chandeliers, framed by stunning iron birdcages, an exquisite oak framed restaurant and a luxurious private dining room. Topped off with a big vaulted function room with outstanding acoustics. The team selected and managed all contractors and sub-contractors to ensure the highest standards of delivery.

The new internal refurbishment incorporated decoration, artwork throughout the space and new furniture that would work in groups of two, three or four, and could also come together allowing the space to be used as a banqueting hall. Now everybody orders from the original main barn and then chooses to sit in the refurbished barn.
