JD Wetherspoon engaged DV Architects for this project, setting high design expectations within a restricted budget—making the endeavour both challenging and ultimately rewarding. The design concept drew inspiration from the site's rich history. The current Rockingham Arms, located within Metro Central Heights, stands on the same site as its long-standing predecessor, which was destroyed during the Blitz in the 1940s.

The refurbishment involved a comprehensive interior transformation, including the removal of a raised floor and curved modern walls to restore a more open layout. New glazed panels were installed within the existing framing to enhance natural light, while a redesigned back bar, front counter, and over-bar glass racks with integrated feature lighting redefined the space with a blend of contemporary and traditional London pub aesthetics. Additional enhancements such as bespoke carpeting, a statement bookcase, and full interior redecoration further revitalized the venue.

The project also encompassed the creation of new staff facilities, a redesign of the guest restrooms, kitchen modifications featuring an open gantry, and an upgraded HVAC system. Externally, new signage and an enclosed outdoor seating area with planter barriers refreshed the building’s façade, enhancing its presence and appeal.
